Just a little over a year ago, on May 6th, 2006, Ankara alum Ben Phillippy '69 vanished in San Marcos, Texas. The case is still open. To date, there have been no significant developments or leads.
Ben Phillippy '69 and Paul Kuttner '69 have been lifelong friends since their Ankara HS days. As Paul said, "except for the 14 years Ben took off to raise a family, we've been roommates."
News 8 Austin denied our request for permission to post this story in its entirety. Instead, they suggested we post links to their copyright story and video.
A footnote to the Channel 8 news story - Ben was last seen at the Triple Crown Bar in San Marcos, a couple of blocks from his home. He popped his head in the front door at 4PM, most probably looking for a ride to a Kentucky Derby party. Ducked back out immediately, never to be seen again.
I visited with Paul and several other sources knowledgeable about Ben's disappearance. Despite verbiage to contrary in the story and video, foul play may have indeed been a factor. Officially still listed as a missing person - the consensus of opinion is that Ben is not just missing, but "presumed dead."
