Watching the recent news brought chills and memories of June '67. The terror of not knowingwhere your parents are or even alive. My father was in Amman, Jordan during the Isreal-Arab war and my sister was at the Beruit College for Women and I was in the dorm packed up and ready to go pack to Amman for the summer. The next thing I knew Mr. Kunzie called me in to his office and informed me that the flight home was cancelled, and I was to stay in the dorms until the State Department decided where I was going to go. For a week I didn't know anything except for the news I got off the short wave radio Dave McAllister and I built from parts we got from the USAF salvage depot. Finally my sister Carol, class of 66, showed up in Ankara via Rome, and a week after that my father showed up in Ankara via Tehran, Iran. The war only took seven days, and it was over in three days when my Father got out. After Dad was in Ankara, he was assigned TDY, and we got an apartment in Ankara, and I was sprung from the dorms. I got a summer job with USAID/Turkey escorting fellow refugees from place to place getting their Military ID cards, ration cards etc, that was really exciting. Carol went to Germany with some friends for the summer, Dad was assigned to USAID/Nepal in August, and I went to the dorms for my fourth year. I was the first kid to spend all of his high school in the dorms.
Carol did return to BCW and finished up. I spent a year in Kathmandu and Western Nepal after GCM and then to college in California.
Seeing the evacuation and the carnage really brought those memories and feelings back. I really feel for the people on both sides knowing that they are stuck there with no place to go.

Rodney, is your sister's name Carol by any chance? Are you the same Rodney Bell who hung around with Beau (Bo) Ridgeway and Becky Hulit in 1965 in Ankara? Are you the same guy who used to go sledding on cardboard with us on hills behind the dorms....the same one who lost his 'sled' and I wound up on YOUR back riding the rest of the way down the hill??? Becky!
