George C. Marshall High School has shipped us their entire library of yearbooks -- six large boxes. The final box arrived this afternoon. Some of the 60's, most of the 70s, 80s and 90s -- right up through and including 2002. With one or two exceptions, all are free of autographs. The majority are in mint condition.- some still wrapped in plastic. A couple of the library copies have some minor wear and tear -- but only a very few. Between 150 and 180 yearbooks in all. Included are about two dozen yearbooks from other regional schools. We're in the process of contacting the relevant alumni groups and will be sending those yearbooks to them. Did you know that beginning in the mid-80s, the photos are in color? And by the 90s - each senior had an entire page.

They were sent to us with a note saying "Thanks very much for giving the books another chance in life."

Ray -

It depends on how many are mailed out between now and August. The single copies are being scanned, xeroxed and sent to Tim Wurtz for safe-keeping.

The yearbooks have been inventoried. A greater number than originally guesstimated were from other schools - Izmir, Karamursel, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Greece, and Korea. Relevant alumni groups have been contacted and most of the "foreign" yearbooks have already been shipped.

Several of the yearbooks have a name embossed on the front or a card placed inside, indicating that the student may never have received his/her yearbook. Every effort will be made to locate these alumni and deliver their yearbooks to them.

The largest number of duplicates (about 90) are from the 1997 - 2002 class years. 1997 - 2003 alumni, for whom we have email addresses, have been advised that these books are available. There are another handful of class years for which there are limited multiple copies - those alumni will also be contacted.

We will retain a single copy of each class year -- for scanning, research and as a source of name tag photographs for Reunion'05 and subsequent reunions. Beyond that, we have no use for the remaining copies. We'd like to see as many of them as possible back in alumni hands. Once the relevant classes have an opportunity to acquire the books, we'll gladly make them available to any interested alum.
